Nicholas Dane

I've just read Nicholas Dane by Melvin Burgess. It's a book about a boy who's mum dies. He gets sent to a home where there is a man who rapes the boys. Some of the boys go along with it to get treats such as sweets and cigarettes. Nick ends up escaping and living out on the streets.

The scenery isn't really described in much detail.

The characters are fully described and have been clearly thought about. Nick is a likeable character because he's fun and not boring. However, he does have a concience. Therefore the reader is always on Nick's side.

I think this book has been written  for older students and adults because some of the contents could be disturbing.

Altogether, this was one of the best books I've ever read -9/10
